Due to a Request...

Sat Dec 15, 2007, 11:46 PM
The deviation by the title of Paintchat 01 was deleted.

Apparently, Jasmine actually looks at my gallery from time to time, unlike myself who has not seen the likes of it since the last deviation has been submitted.

I am loved. :D

Bah. It's hard to judge your OCs because you don't say much about them! While there are certain trends in the designs of OCs that I think can make them unoriginal (I've already mentioned a lot of them in that one journal and comment), most of what makes an OC good or bad (in my book at least) is the story behind them. How fleshed out is their personality, are they Mary Sues or do they have a fair amount of character flaws (a good thing!), are they in interesting in general or do they just feel like a cliché (the "cute" one, the "emo", the "dark antihero", etc.). So I can't say one way or the other for your characters at this point.

I'm sorry for not telling you I've been horrendously inactive for the past couple of years. I just didn't think you would be nice enough to take up on my request, and knowing that you have taken the time to look, I just...feel so disappointed in myself. I'm sorry for wasting your time like that. I'm probably going to slave over Photoshop and the artist's comment box just so I could spit out a few amazing artworks and descriptions of my characters to make up for that.

Concerning my OCs, I hope they have grown up as much as I have. I used to be a 12-year-old anime fangirl (oh, the thought ;; ) and my OCs, to some extent, showed that. (I did the elf ears thing and only a couple were Mary Sues although I did use them a heck of a lot. The embarrasment.) I can guarantee you there's no antihero character and no opposite-attitude couple. I can't guarantee you anything on extreme beauty though. A couple of them are supposed to be supermodels and one of them is a robot. Both supermodels have their personality flaws and broken backstories, but one of them is so obsessed with perfection (which is a personality flaw in itself, I guess) that she had to build a robot that was absolutely perfect in society's beauty standards. (I probably gave too much away. Oh, well.) The robot, being extremely rational, is lacking in the social skills department and is striving to be socially accepted because said supermodel gave her/it a mind that the robot could use to learn and think her/its own thoughts with. (The robot is supposed to look female, but she doesn't have the parts, yanno?) The rest of the cast of my main OCs (the ones I have since I was twelve or so) aren't an eyesore but they certainly aren't a bunch of twenty-something prettybois and curvy, sensual love goddesses. I strive to make these characters look like someone you may walk into one day, but you're going to have to be the judge on that. I have a warped view of reality that can only be achieved with a mind willing to believe whatever lies it tells itself.

I do however have a bunch of OCs that aren't my main ones, but have more purpose than they do. They are actually part of a story that I would like to get published one day (in comic form, of course), and would rather have you judge them before any other character of mine as soon as I have them posted.

And, again, I'm sorry for not saying much of my characters to whatever crowd I have before I asked you to come over. ;;

Don't worry, I have quite a bit of free time. And we've all been there as far as twelve year old fangirls are concerned (some worse than others... one of my friends wrote herself in as Sephiroth's girlfriend in one of her stories). It makes sense that your characters would grow in depth and personality as you think about them more and add more details and backstory to them. My thoughts are that almost any basic design, even if it's the most cliché thing you can think of, can be original and interesting with a little bit of spin.

As for the obsession with beauty, having one character that is unusually beautiful isn't a bad thing, especially if it causes character flaws (as it does like 99% of the time with people who are like that irl). My problem was more towards the characters of Twilight, who were almost all extremely attractive and "better" than normal people.

Your story sounds interesting! Let me know if you want me to comment when you do post something; I don't mind at all giving my impressions on characters.
